Back Edition

Spring always feels like an optimistic time of year. The harshness of winter is behind us with the promise of brighter days ahead. I’m feeling similarly optimistic when I look through the contents of this edition. Yes, there are many things that need to be improved for patients – not least speedier diagnoses and more readily available information – and yet there are so many advances being made, both within the charity and within the wider medical community, that we should be reassured we are moving in the right direction.

Back in the summer when I wrote my Welcome to the previous edition of NewsWire, I had no idea how successful the Marathon in a Month campaign. It has been inspirational to hear of people’s stories of taking part, of enjoying their walks and the camaraderie of walking with others or the joy of walking in nature and the subsequent improved mood or sleep.

The last few months have been some of the busiest I can remember for the charity. Sadly, Candy Horsbrugh, who had been our director for the last five years, left to pursue new challenges. I became chair of PMRGCAuk around the time that Candy joined, and it has been a huge pleasure to work with her. She has been an enthusiastic, supportive and innovating leader of the charity, and we have seen growth and considerable development during her time with us.
